RESILIENCE READY

Our Resilience Ready page uses the definitions of the Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience, the peak body in Australia. (The Prevention, Preparedness, Response, Recovery image at left is used under Creative Commons licensing from NSW Government.)

This is a page of resources with links to the expert providers to help you in the Prevention and Preparedness phases of Disaster Resilience so you will be better equipped to Respond and Recover.

Rural Fire Service

The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) has a lot of resources to help you prevent, prepare and respond to our greatest threat – wildfires. This is the starting page to assist with planning and creating your fire plan https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/resources/bush-fire-survival-plan

Your plan should be discussed and agreed with all family members and where possible tested and reviewed when conditions change

Red Cross

The Australian Red Cross have created a Readiplan tool to help you prepare contacts and documents as a vital poart of preparedness.

Their set of resources including the rediplan can be found here: https://www.redcross.org.au/prepare/

Wingecarribee Shire Council

Council’s Disaster Dashboard is a good entry point for Council’s resources.

NSW Government – Prepare for a Disaster

NSW State Government have a page with many useful resources to help prepare for a disaster

Critical Apps

In the event of a disaster or severe events there are several critical smartphone apps that can provide critical information to help you make informed decisions. We urge you to install these – they are available for iPhones and Android phones. Search for them on your smartphone – icons on the image at left.

Hazards Near Me – Hazards Near Me is an update to Fires Near Me. You can set Watch Zones to be notified of potential Hazards (Fire, Flood etc) near you and the status of the Hazards

Emergency + – Emergency + (or Emergency Plus) uses your smartphone GPS and location services to show where you are. If you need to contact emergency services (and you can from within the App) you can provide you location with accuracy using the co-ordiantes, address or What Three Words.

Live Traffic– Live traffic shows incidents from the Transport for NSW incident management system. If you need to evacuate, this is vital information in near-time to ensure your route is clear.
